The authors of the publication work as conservators at the Preservation Department of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oświęcim. Thirty five thousand original records of the so called SS-Hygiene Institut collection have been preserved under the supervision of this team for last three years.
A Polish-English brochure constituting the summary of the project includes not only the historical outline of the SS-Hygiene Institut branch, which was established in the vicinity of the Auschwitz camp by the German authorities, but also the detailed inscription of the modern preservation methods used to protect such precious archival records against degradation (mainly caused by passage of time and acidity of paper). The documents will constitute the important sources to continue the further historical research on the Auschwitz camp.
